DaVee Chaffin Greer Custom Horsehair Hitching
and Braided Rawhide Tack

In 1990, DaVee and her family moved to North Central Washington. She loved living in the high desert and riding for a local ranch.  Shortly after moving, DaVee discovered how long the winters were. She first taught herself how to braid rawhide and then, after being given “The Art of Horsehair Hitching” authored by Eugene Barnett, tackled learning hitching. It was the intricacies of design and all the different combinations of color that made this her favorite art form. DaVee Greer horsehair hitcher and rawhide braider

DaVee’s thoughts on gearmaking: “After hitching & braiding for this many years I am still discovering new designs and uses for this type of art. In the busy technological world we live in, it is sometimes hard to remember that for centuries cowboys were making their own gear to use.
By doing this type of work, you are reminded daily of how fortunate we are to turn out a useable piece just like they did in days gone by, when life was a lot slower paced.. When you’re out working cows on the ranch (& using traditional gear) you can truly understand why those that have chosen to be cowboys are. To be a small part of keeping the western gearmaking tradition alive is truly an honor and a pleasure.

Thank you,
DaVee Chaffin Greer
