Cattle Photo GalleryHard to be a cowboy without cows. They are the point of the whole lifestyle. Cattle came to the New World with the Spanish and have supplied us with meat and leather and a number of byproducts ever since. Wide open spaces were perfect to graze and raise cattle. Originally there were no fences and herders or cowboys were needed to gather and care for the cattle. They could move with the season and availability of feed and water. Fences began to cut up the land into private parcels and some of the old cow men will contend that while that was maybe easier for small owners, but not necessarily the best for the cattle, the grazing and the land.
